Enjoy making chamber music in this relaxed, idyllic retreat in South West France. You will be immersed in music making and will also have opportunities to explore the local countryside, markets and chateau.

Intermediate String Chamber Music is for adult players…
- string players (violin, viola, ‘cello, double bass) level B and C or ABRSM Grade 5 – 8
- pianists of level A and B
- the course is limit to maximum of 19 players

Repertoire will be selected from classical string quartets, string trios, piano trios and quartets. This year we are planning to include some of Schubert’s ‘Trout’ Quintet. We do our best to accommodate works that you would particularly like to play… just let us know.
Tutored sessions are from Monday to Friday. There are three coached sessions each day: two in the morning (with coffee break) and the third between afternoon tea and pre-supper drinks.
Afternoons are free time (pool, walks, ad-hoc playing etc.) We make our own entertainment at Cubertou and there is opportunity for ad-hoc playing after supper.

Please arrive afternoon/evening on the Sunday (after 15:00). There are no formal activities on the Sunday… just settling in.
On the first day light refreshments will be provided from 16:00 and supper will be at 20:00 (and saved for late arrivals).
The course ends after breakfast on the Saturday. You are invited to ‘build-your-own’ pic-nic at breakfast time to take on your journey.
James Young studied at Birmingham University and the Guildhall School of Music and Drama, where he conducted the orchestra of the Junior Music Department for 10 years. He has had a varied career in music education, including 7 years as Head of Junior Music at the Purcell School and 11 years as Head of String Teaching for LB Havering. As a conductor/coach he has worked with young and adult instrumentalists in areas from London to the Scottish Highlands. He has also conducted youth and adult Choirs for many years, including 8 years with the choirs of the National Youth Choir of Scotland
Vivienne Young studied French and Music at Birmingham University and also Cello with Antonia Butler. After leaving Birmingham, she continued studies with Christopher Bunting and Stefan Popov in London. After an assortment of teaching posts, she was appointed full-time in Barnet and was promoted to Head of String teaching. Since 1999, she has lived in Scotland, working for Edinburgh City Council until 2015. She has experience with small and large groups of instrumentalists, ages ranging from 7-70+!
Superb home cooking and local wines are provided and refreshments are served throughout the day. All meals and refreshments, including wine, are included in the course price. We welcome vegans, veggies and meat eaters. We can cater for some (but not all) allergies and intolerances, please discuss these with us before booking.
