Advanced Mixed Chamber Music

You will play quality repertoire for various instrumental combinations with other players of a high standard. This course is tutored by one of the UK’s most distinguished and experienced chamber musicians; Ian Brown is pianist with the Nash Ensemble, one of the few chamber ensembles playing exactly the repertoire that we shall be exploring.

You will be immersed in music making, but also have time to relax in this idyllic retreat in SW France.

The Course

Repertoire will include Prokofiev Quintet in G minor (ob, cl, vln, vla, cb), Stravinsky Septet (cl, bsn, hrn, vln, vla, vlc, pno), Martinu La revue de cuisine (cl, bsn, trpt, vln, vlc, pno) and Roussel Trio (fl, vla, vlc) and more…

There are three coached sessions each day: two in the morning (with coffee break) and the third between afternoon tea and pre-supper drinks.

Afternoons are free time (pool, walks, ad-hoc playing etc.) We make our own entertainment at Cubertou and there is opportunity for ad-hoc playing in the afternoons and after supper.


Please arrive mid afternoon/early evening on the Sunday.

On the first evening supper will be when all guest have arrived – usually 21:00 (20:00 UK time). Light refreshments will be provided before then.

The course ends after breakfast on the Saturday. We can provide a light packed lunch for your journey.


Ian Brown is one of the UK’s most experienced musicians. Ian Brown’s musical life covers a wide field of solo playing, chamber music and conducting. Ian is pianist with the esteemed Nash Ensemble and he also appears as a concerto pianist and conductor with major orchestras throughout the world.


Superb home cooking and local wines are provided and refreshments are served throughout the day. All meals and refreshments, including wine, are included in the course price. We welcome vegans, veggies and meat eaters. We can cater for some (but not all) allergies and intolerances, please discuss these with us before booking.
